Classes

CPI Class Overview

CPI offers classes to parents of children ages 0-18. Each class is led by a trained parent educator who provides tools that parents can adapt to their own family's needs. All CPI classes have a strong child development foundation, supporting the belief that each child and parent brings unique needs and temperament to family life. Although many classes are held at the Parent Education Center in southwest Santa Rosa, others are conveniently located throughout Sonoma County.

Classes include Guiding your Toddler and Preschooler, Positive Parenting.

Cost is per person unless otherwise indicated. Unless noted parents DO NOT attend with child. Childcare is not provided and children may not be left unattended. Classes are held at our Parent Education Center, 3642 Standish Ave, Santa Rosa, CA.

Parenting Apart Without Tears (Sept)

3 sessions

Wednesdays | September 4 - 18 | 6:00-8:00pm

3642 Standish Ave, Santa Rosa

This three-session class covers the patterns that emerge in parenting relationships between ex-partners and how specific challenges can be addressed through improved communication. Several techniques for improving parenting communication are taught and practiced. As well, the class offers crucial up-to-date information on the impacts of divorce conflict on children and provides strategies for parenting that ease the impacts of this impactful event in the vulnerable lives of children.

Parenting Your Teen through the College Application Process (evening sessions)

Mindfulness Program for Parents and Children (ages 10+)

Mondays | September 23 - October 28 | 6:00-7:30pm

3642 Standish Ave, Santa Rosa

Teaching parents and children how to use mindfulness to ease stress and manage difficult emotions. The class is intended for parents and children (ages 10+). The practice taught during these sessions have been proven to decrease anxiety in students. They become calmer and more focused and have reported experiencing less stress regarding homework and test. Students have also reported becoming less emotionally reactive and more compassionate with themselves as well as others.

Handling Anger: Mine and My Child's (Sept)

Topics include where anger comes from, how to manage and control our anger, communication techniques which minimize angry reactions, and acceptable outlets for angry children.

Understanding and Managing Problem Behavior (FREE)

This class is for any parent or educator that is interested in learning more about challenging behavior. This training will identify what challenging behavior is in regards to developmental norms, indicate why the challenging behaviors occur, provide strategies on how to prevent problem behavior, and general strategy about what to do when problem behaviors occur. This training is open to all and is free to attend.

One of the most important task of parenthood is helping children learn to deal with their emotions. All children experience periods of stress in their lives and need the emotional skills to deal with it. Children’s emotional resilience, or ability to cope with their feelings is important to their long-term happiness, wellbeing, and success in life. We will discuss six key skills that are needed for developing emotional resilience.
