Classes

Parenting Classes at CPI

CPI offers classes to parents of children ages 0-18. Each class is led by a trained parent educator who provides tools that parents can adapt to their own family's needs. All CPI classes have a strong child development foundation, supporting the belief that each child and parent brings unique needs and temperament to family life.

Although many classes are held at the Parent Education Center in southwest Santa Rosa, others are conveniently located throughout Sonoma County.

Classes include Guiding your Toddler and Preschooler, Positive Parenting. In addition, classes involving infants and toddlers, such as Infant Massage and Billingual Playgroups, are attended by parents and children together.

Cost is per person unless otherwise indicated. Unless noted parents DO NOT attend with child. Childcare is not provided and children may not be left unattended. Classes are held at our Parent Education Center, 3642 Standish Ave, Santa Rosa, CA

By Gateway Learning Group:  Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from the field of Behavioral Sciences, is an evidence-based treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorders.

At Gateway, we approach the main Autism Spectrum areas of language, social skills and behavior using ABA therapy.

The Other Side of Cannabis: Negative Effects of Marijuana on Our Youth (A Documentary)

The film is intended to reach parents, educators, and other community members with factual information and real stories about the impact marijuana can have on youth, ONLY adult will be attending. After showing the video there will be faciliated discussion for Parents to participate with CPI Parent Educator.
The producers of OSC state that they have no political or economic affiliations or interests, their purpose is to bring attention to the negative effects of marijuana on our youth—adolescents, teenagers and young adults, whose brains are still forming. The film makers believe it is important to make an informed decision to use marijuana and to know the potential risks. This film is not about legalization nor medicinal treatments.

Documentary provided by the Sonoma County Department of Health Services (DHS), Sonoma County Prevention Partnership’s Marijuana Subcommittee.

Guiding Your Toddler and Preschooler

Time: 2 hours from 10 to 12noon

During the course, you will learn:
Ways to manage life stress and improve your mood so:
* you can feel better and enjoy life more
* you can teach your baby how to manage life stresses as he or she grows up
* you can avoid mood problems such as depression.
Helpful information about your pregnancy and your baby's development.
You will also have the opportunity to talk with other women. Some of them already have a baby,
and others are expecting. You can share with them your ideas and concerns before and after
childbirth, so that you can give your baby and yourself all the support you need.

This two day workshop focuses on meeting the parenting challenges that arise in new family paradigms that include two parents each with their own children, grandparents as primary caregivers, or unmarried partners living together.

This 3-session class covers the patterns that emerge in parenting relationships between ex-partners and how specific challenges can be addressed through improved communication. Several techniques for improving parenting communication are taught and practiced. As well, the class offers crucial up-to-date information on the impacts of divorce conflict on children and provides strategies for parenting that ease the impacts of this impactful event in the vulnerable lives of children.

Coparent Counseling Orientation

Monday,  July 31, 2017    6:00-7:30pm    Orientation will be held at our Parent Education Center,  3642 Standish Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95407

Registration of all parties is required to secure space, the orientation cost is per parent attending to confirm registration. All to pay and register in advanced to start on time and reserve a space.

Parents face special challenges as they grapple with separation, divorce and creating blended families. Co-parent counseling allows parents an opportunity to talk about the best interests of their children in a neutral environment and, when appropriate, to get input and advice from a professional who is experienced in working with children and families of divorce.

After the orientation, individual sessions will be schedule on a sliding scale fee $40-80. Individual counseling sessions will be scheduled Monday through Friday during business hours 9am-5pm.

Kids' Turn (Kids Fee Only)

Kids’ Turn of Sonoma County is an educational program to help families deal with issues arising from separation or divorce. Children and teens ages 5 through 14  (4 or 15yr olds may be allowed on case by case basis)  meet in small groups according to age. Both parents are encouraged to attend, at least one parent must participate. Any questions regarding this program you can contact Dayna Adams, dayna@calparents.org

Advanced registration for the Kids’ Turn program is required Fall session will be closing August 15th (space is limited), once registered all adults will be given a registration packet to be completed.

Mindfulness para Padres e Hijos

Enseñar a padres e hijos cómo usar la atención plena para aliviar el estrés y manejar emociones difíciles. La clase está dirigida a padres e hijos (de 10 a 18 años), pero puede aplicarse a niños más pequeños. La práctica enseñada durante estas sesiones ha demostrado reducir la ansiedad en los estudiantes. Se vuelven más tranquilos y más enfocados, los estudiantes también han reportado ser menos emocionalmente reactivos y más compasivos consigo mismos, así como con otros.
