Classes

CPI Class Overview

CPI offers classes to parents of children ages 0-18. Each class is led by a trained parent educator who provides tools that parents can adapt to their own family's needs. All CPI classes have a strong child development foundation, supporting the belief that each child and parent brings unique needs and temperament to family life. Although many classes are held at the Parent Education Center in southwest Santa Rosa, others are conveniently located throughout Sonoma County.

Classes include Guiding your Toddler and Preschooler, Positive Parenting.

Cost is per person unless otherwise indicated. Unless noted parents DO NOT attend with child. Childcare is not provided and children may not be left unattended. Classes are held at our Parent Education Center, 3642 Standish Ave, Santa Rosa, CA.

Parenting Teens Series

You might be wondering what happened to the child you used to enjoy so much. Perhaps he or she has always been a challenge and is now an even "tougher" teen. Parenting teens can feel like navigating a sailboat across an ocean. In this three-night series parents will learn strategies to stay on course during the adolescent years.

Topics addressed: Teen brain development, causes of behavior problems, promoting a positive relationship, coping with teens' emotions, planning for risky behavior and self-care tips for teens and parents.

Raising Resilient Children (Kaiser Member Fee) (June)

One of the most important task of parenthood is helping children learn to deal with their emotions. All children experience periods of stress in their lives and need the emotional skills to deal with it. Children’s emotional resilience, or ability to cope with their feelings is important to their long-term happiness, wellbeing, and success in life. We will discuss six key skills that are needed for developing emotional resilience.

Managing Family Anger (June)

This class explores the causes of anger in family relationships and offers positive strategies for managing angry feelings. The curriculum demonstrates how to improve family communication and engender greater trust and cooperation among parents and children. Parents will learn how to manage their own anger and how to model effective anger management strategies for children of all ages.

Raising Responsible Young Adults

Parents may be concerned that their teenager might be influenced by their friends to do things that could put their health or wellbeing in danger. Parents can help prepare their teenager to reduce these risks and, if possible, it is important to begin before being faced with situations that pose serious risks. This class will include active discussion of the parenting strategies introduced and will involve you in developing a personalized parenting plan.

Raising Sons

This workshop offers an overview of the specific biological and family issues that can shape a boy’s growth from infancy into adolescence and manhood. The class shatters myths, reveals new and intriguing research into the life of boys, and offers concrete strategies for addressing parenting challenges positively and confidently.
