 p>Psychotropic Medications – An Overview for Resource Families</p>\n<p>Pre

 >This three hour training will review current California legislation that 
 regulates the administration of psychotropic medication. Trainees\, throug
 h lecture and small group activities\, will understand the court process a
 nd the importance of this process to insure the regulations are adhered to
 .  Through discussion and small group activities\, the trainees will under
 stand the relationship between trauma and potential mental health issues a
 nd will learn tools to support children who have been exposed to trauma\, 
 loss and grief. The training includes information on Mental Health service
 s and access to these service as well as an overview of psychotropic meds 
 and their potential side effects. The California Guidelines for the Admini
 stration of Psychotropic Medication will be introduced. </p>\n\n<p>Ms. Lef
 ler\, who retired in June of 2015\, was the Assistant Director of the Bay 
 Area Academy from 2002 to 2015. Prior to that\, she was a supervising Publ
 ic Health Nurse in San Francisco child welfare. Ms. Lefler has been consul
 ting and training for over 40 years. She specializes in Child Maltreatment
 \, drug and alcohol exposed infants\, infant mental health\, trauma\, team
 ing and interdisciplinary practice. She is also certified as a Legal Nurse
  Consultant and has served as a medical guardian ad litem for Solano Count
 y Superior Court. Ms. Lefler has been an active participant in many statew
 ide committees including but not limited to: CSEC\, California Practice Mo
 del\, CORE 3.0\, Fostering Connections\, Bay Area Regional Children’s Comm
 ittee and the Child Welfare Directors Association.  After her retirement\,
  she has continued to train for the Bay Area Academy.  </p>
