When Shawn* first came to CPI, she had recently been removed from her home due to exposure to drug use, neglect, and physical abuse.
At just four years old, Shawn had experienced more trauma than most adults.
As you can imagine, Shawn’s behavior wasn’t that of a typical preschooler -- it was difficult for her foster mom, Katherine*, to even get her out of the house most days without a meltdown.
Katherine brought Shawn to the Child Parent Institute’s Child and Family Counseling Clinic, where she worked diligently to create a secure bond with Shawn.
Shawn saw her therapist at CPI for an entire year. When her therapy at CPI ended, Shawn had just moved into permanency with Katherine, whose family planned to adopt her.
Shawn’s smiles were bigger, her face was brighter, she was engaging and playful -- she had even made a few friends at school.
This Giving Tuesday, we need your support to help other children just like Shawn.
*At Child Parent Institute, we respect everyone who comes to us for help. While their stories are true, client names and images have been changed to protect their privacy. Thank you for understanding.
Donate to our Child and Family Counseling Clinic on Giving Tuesday and your gift will be doubled by a generous donor who will match your contributions dollar for dollar up to one thousand dollars!
